Israel Prayer

In May 2007 Nigel and I went to Israel on a guided tour led by our good friend Dr. Mark Hutchinson. It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary year so it was our 'big' holiday. We went with a party of different folks from various churches in the UK including our own. Our official photographer for the trip was Erik Casey, another good friend! Erik took literally hundreds of shots! We went to many places in Israel including Hebron, the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and Galilee. What struck us was that life and the issues there were very complicated. It was not just Arab and Jew, but also within the Jewish community there was secular to extremely orthodox, and I guess probably the same within the Arab community. As we were leaving Jerusalem on our way to Galilee we stopped and looked back at the city and just spent sometime in quiet reflection and prayer. It was during that time that I wrote the song 'Israel'. When we got back to the UK we recorded the song and shared it with our friends and relations. It was only while Erik was staying with us for a few days in 2009 that we thought of combining the song with some of Erik's photographs. Nigel has used photographs that show the beauty of some of the buildings and particularly some of the landscapes that were awe inspiring, plus others showing every day life and the diversity that is there and some that show the political aspects as well.
